Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between competitive and general members?

To join our Competitive Team, you must tryout. Anyone and everyone of any skill level is welcome to be a general member. See our “Competitive Team” page to look at tryout information.

Do I have to know tennis to join?

No! Our club is welcome to players of all levels. Our practices and tournaments are available to members for those who want to learn. Weekly practices are usually games and drills catered towards intermediate-advanced levels.

When are practices? Do I have to go?

Practices are Monday 12-2pm, Wednesday 12-2pm, and Friday 12-2pm. See more info under “About”.

Unless you are on the competitive team, there is no obligation to go to practices. They are there for your own benefit, along with tournaments. If you are unable to make practices but still want to play, message under “looking-for-group” on our Discord to meetup with fellow club members.

How do I become a member?

To join our club, click “How to Join” and follow the instructions. Any and all questions about the joining process should be answered there, but if you have any further questions please reach out to the board here. Membership costs and information are under “About” towards the bottom of the page.

Who is in charge of the club? Can I reach out to them?

Our board is posted towards the bottom of our home page. Abby Yuen, our President, manages (and designed) this website and is available to contact for any questions or concerns. Alyssa Lee (Scheduler) and Kyle Duong (Treasurer) are also available to contact. Click “Contact” for more info.

When are tryouts?

Tryouts are at the beginning of each semester. Further information can be found under “Competitive Team”. Add our Google Calendar to stay up-to-date with events.

Where are the courts?

The CPP tennis courts are next to Parking Structure 2, off of University Drive.

How many tournaments will there be?

Our club has member only tournaments around 2-3 times per semester, depending on interest. If more people are interested, we will have more tournaments.

Unfortunately, currently, our courts are not in the condition to host other teams. Our competitive team gets to travel to play other schools and plays in around 3-4 tournaments per semester.

What do dues cover?

Our club requires membership dues to function. Like tennis clubs at other colleges, our dues cover equipment like balls, baskets, and court maintenance tools. We also host an end-of-year banquet for our members! Our dues are going up this year because we are trying to buy new court maintenance tools to improve the conditions or our courts. See here to read about our ideas for this year’s improvements!

Do I have to be a member to tryout for the competitive team?

Yes! You have to be a member to do any club events, which includes tryouts. If you make it onto the team, you must have a general membership and pay an additional competitive fee.
