Our team at 2024 TOC Socal Sectionals!
-
Our competition team plays in tournaments organized by (and registered through) Tennis on Campus, a club college tennis organization through USTA. This means club college tournaments are official and count towards UTR.
We usually travel within California, only going out of state for 1-2 tournaments a year (our team competed in Texas last year). Our travel funds depend on school funding and fundraising. Help our club competitive team by donating here.
Once a year (in February), we compete in the TOC Southern California Sectionals, where the top 5 teams compete in the TOC Nationals. We have gone to Nationals once in our school’s history, in Spring 2023. Read more about it here.
Throughout the year, we practice as a collective team, running drills, match play, and doing strength/agility conditioning. On weekends, we compete at tournaments hosted by other club teams; in the past, we’ve gone to UCSB, Pepperdine, Claremont Colleges, and UCI. At these tournaments, we play against many other local club teams. Ever year, our goal is to improve our skills and perform well at Sectionals so that we can go to Nationals and compete at the national level.

The competitive team takes sportsmanship very seriously. We do not tolerate immature behavior on or off the court. If you damage the court, throw a tantrum, yell at opponents, or do anything that could hurt the integrity of our club or our members, we will revoke your membership and ban you from club events.
Our club is unlike many other college tennis clubs because we offer both recreational events as well as competitive events. Our general membership is open to anyone, but to be on our competitive team (aka “collegiate club tennis”) you must tryout.
Competitive team tryouts are twice a year: once in the beginning of Fall semester, once in the beginning of Spring semester.

We are not only looking at skill. We are assessing your sportsmanship and character on court to see if you are fit to represent our team, club, and school. The people you are competing with are your fellow teammates — in tournaments, we play against fellow college students. We expect fairness, enthusiasm, and respect on and off the court.
